ABOUT
“Acrobatic, sensual, both angelic and profane” it is how British newspaper The Guardian perfectly described Bruno Capinan’s voice. Born in the Brazilian state of Bahia and based in Canada, the singer-songwriter returns with a new album Real, calling it “a manifesto against Bolsonaro’s Brazil”. The new record was released on July 19, with a performance at the prestigious Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Coproduced with Arcade Fire’s collaborator and Grammy Award winner Mark Lawson the 12- track album, sung primarily in Portuguese, is “dynamic in scope and vibrant in intent” as defined by Canada’s Exclaim. Recorded between Toronto, Montreal, Rio and Lisbon, Real is comprised of an all original material, with songs co-written alongside Gilberto Gil’s son Bem Gil, drummer Domenico Lancellotti and French musician Philippe Cohen Solal from the tango ensemble Gotan Project.
Bruno Capinan gained international recognition in 2016, with the release of Divina Graça, including French newspaper Libération, Japan’s Latina Magazine, as well as Brazil’s largest publications O Globo and Folha de São Paulo. Winner of the TELUS Newcomer Artist Award 2014, he performed to audiences in Japan, Argentina, United States, Canada and Brazil. In 2017, he began collaborating with Japanese composer Jun Miyake, co-writing and recording on his latest release Lost Memory Theatre Act-3.

“Today, that voice – acrobatic, sensual, both angelic and profane – is what listeners of his Tropicalia-inspired music first latch on to”
- The Guardian
“The 12 songs on Real, co-produced by Capinan and Grammy Award-winning engineer (and Arcade Fire collaborator) Mark Lawson, are incredibly diverse, and are heavily influenced by Brazilian popular music”
- Remezcla
“That unswerving determination and dedication comes out in Capinan’s performance, complete with dramatic, sometimes whimsical costumes and the unmistakable soft lull of his singing voice”
- Now Magazine
